Calendar of Events for May 2012

6-hour Meditation (May 5)
Paramahansa Yogananda said: “This can wait, and that can wait, but your search for God cannot wait.” Long meditations provide a unique opportunity to leave behind all responsibilities and focus wholeheartedly on our search for God. There will be a 6-hour meditation commemorating Sri Yukteswar’s birthday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We hope you can join us. If you are unable to come at 10:00 a.m. for the morning portion of the meditation, please plan to enter during the break at 1:00 p.m.

Sri Yukteswar’s Birthday (May 10)
All are invited to celebrate Sri Yukteswar’s birthday with a meditation at 6:30 p.m. and a devotional service at 8:00 p.m. It is traditional to bring a flower symbolizing devotion, and an offering as a symbol of loyalty to the Guru and his teachings.

Family Day of Service (May 12)
The Sunday School will be hosting a Family Day of Service on Saturday, May 12th, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Families are invited to come to the temple for a morning of fellowship and service. Children of all ages are welcome to be joined by one or both of their parents to serve at the temple. Lunch will be served.

Satsanga (May 17)
A satsanga is a lecture service devoted to questions and answers about the teachings of Self-Realization Fellowship and the spiritual path. You may submit questions in advance by placing them in the box marked “Satsanga Questions” in the Main Lobby or online at www.glendaletemple.org.

Day of Service (May 19)
This is a great opportunity to meet fellow devotees, and to serve God and Master. By helping to keep our temple beautiful, you will in turn feel energized and inspired. The opening meditation begins at 10 a.m. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be served at 1:20 p.m.

Story Night (May 19)
This Story Night, on Saturday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., will give all of us a chance to look back through our lives and find some of the most inspiring and spiritually touching moments. Through writing, small group sharing and listening, and hearing from those who wish to share with the whole group you will get a new taste of the personal nature of the spiritual path.

Young Adult Meeting (May 20)
The Glendale Temple Young Adult Group is meeting on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 12:15 p.m. in the courtyard near the Small Chapel. We welcome everyone ages 18 – 39 to join us. Light refreshments will be served.

Youth Programs   
Applications for the 2012 SRF Boys’ and Girls’ “How-To-Live” Youth Programs are available now.  Please see the flyer in the lobby. These programs are held at Camp Arbolado in the San Bernardino Mountains in California. Children ages 10-16 are invited to participate in these camps which include a balanced schedule of meditation, classes, activities, crafts, and sports in a wonderful mountain setting. 

The Girls’ Program will be from June 16 through June 23, 2012. 

The Boys’ Program will be from June 23 through June 30, 2012. 

An early registration discount is available through April 23, 2012.  Application forms and more information may be found on the SRF Website at www.yogananda-srf.org, or you may call the Mother Center and ask for the Youth Services Dept.

Other Events 

Open Meditation An open, unlead meditation will be held in the Social Room from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday, and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the main Sanctuary every Thursday. All are welcome. You may enter at any time. 

Bhagavad Gita Study Group This study group meets every Tuesday evening in the Social Room from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The group begins with a brief meditation, followed by a reading aloud of the Bhagavad Gita and concludes with a short meditation and the Healing Technique. All are welcome. We have extra copies for those who need one.
